A New Vision for Healthcare
$14 Million Raised for a Health Research Center in Claremont, CA
The Project
The President of Claremont Graduate University and the VP of Advancement asked me to help raise money for a new facility designed to consolidate health research on campus. The location had been identified but funds were needed to purchase the building and start renovation. I'd always wanted to make a painting come alive. I thought that would be a great way to visualize the initiative.
My Role
- Interview faculty on the importance of centralizing health research at CGU.
- Recruit and supervise a drone operator for aerial photography.
- Recruit an artist to paint a watercolor of the new building.
To make the painting "come alive" at the end, I projected a still from the video onto a sheet of watercolor paper. The artist (a staff member at CGU who had gotten her MFA in art) traced the building. She then made three separate watercolor paintings, each more "finished" than the next.
The Impact
- The school raised $14 million and secured the facility.
- The video won a CASE Grand Gold Award for a university fundraising video.
